Introduction to leadership and management      

 

Purpose of the workshop: to equip new managers with the essential information and skills needed to successfully manage others. 

 

Target audience: For those with little or no management experience, who wish to start to develop the knowledge, and practice the essential skills, needed to successfully manage staff.

 

Learning outcomes: At the end of the workshop you will: 

  • be aware of the role and responsibilities of a manager 
  • have defined the skills and characteristics of an excellent manager
  • have identified your current management and leadership styles and be aware of there strengths and potential drawbacks
  • be aware of the need to adapt your management style in different situations 
  • have discussed and practised the following skills:
    • communication
    • decision making
    • delegation
    • goal setting
    • motivating others
    • providing feedback
  • have discussed the purpose and features of the following people management policies 
    • appraisal
    • performance management 
    • disciplinary and grievance policies 
    • absence management 
    • sickness 
    • Health and safety
  • leave the workshop with a management development action plan for the forthcoming months. 
  • have access to ongoing support via the Morgan Duell Learning Group
