Purpose of the workshop: To ensure you have the knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively recruit excellent staff.

 

Learning outcomes: By the end of the workshop you will:

  • be aware of the practical implications of related employment law, including:
    • Equality Act 2010
    • Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006
    • Direct and indirect discrimination 
    • Reasonable adjustments 
    • Unconscious bias
  • understand the 12 key steps in best practice recruitment
  • have worked through a 'real-life' recruitment process, including:

    • Deciding whether to recruit? 
    • writing a job description and person specifications 
    • where/how to advertise
    • writing an effective advert
    • selection techniques
    • shortlisting 
    • effective questioning techniques
    • interviewing skills *
    • providing candidates with constructive feedback

 

* As part of the workshop, you will have the opportunity to join a selection panel to prepare for an interview, interview candidates (professional actors) and make a selection decision.  Feedback will be provided throughout the programme by Fellows of the CIPD. 

 

Additional Resources: All participants will receive a copy of Managing Recruitment, from the management pocketbook series.
